Flexible working – should employers be doing more?

The increased development in technology in recent years has resulted in employees being able to work anywhere and anytime – from home, the airport, on holiday and so on.  More and more people work from home permanently and some work from home on set days per week allowing their work and home life to co-exist.

I came across an article recently in Grapevine magazine discussing this issue and it revealed that one in five workers are in fact not allowed to do so. Welcome to Alan Dickinson

You may have read in the news that we have a new addition to the Lander team! We would like to give a big welcome to Alan, who will  be a Guest Executive Consultant in residence for the summer. This is great news for us and we look forward to working with Alan. Alan brings with him a wealth of experience in the recruitment industry– previously Managing Director of Michael Page and he has been involved with many businesses including jobsfinancial.com and Executive Connections.

We have had great success with previous guest residents and Alan’s  experience of working with recruitment businesses means he will be able to offer clients sound advice and valuable guidance in what is an ever changing market.

How to motivate your team in 2010

  

We’re all hoping for a brighter 2010 after the tough year that was 2009 is now behind us. It is vital to fully engage your people and motivation plays a major part. Motivation is key during a recession, but it’s absolutely critical in a recovery. Why? We’re not out of the woods yet – many companies are still facing difficulties and they need to have hard working and motivated teams to ensure they make it through them. On other hand, as market conditions do start to improve, so will the jobs market – and unless they’re happy and well motivated, those people that you’ve retained over the past year will be plotting their move.
